Within science, we want to create confident scientists. Individuals that will apply scientific skills beyond the classroom. We will accomplish this in 3 ways;
A spiralled curriculum that provides opportunities for a student to meet information, then reinforce and solidify each time the student revisits the subject matter. Learning follows a natural progression and students develop their ability to apply knowledge to a variety of contexts.
All learning is placed into a real world context and each lesson students are asked to consider why they are learning.
Students will cover a significant body of current scientific knowledge throughout Key Stage 3, but more importantly students will be given the means to check this information through the teaching of practical, mathematical and language skills. This change in focus is best served by concentrating on the skills as much as the scientific context, so effort has been made to teach the disciplines alongside each other.
