We attended the Lowestoft Town Council‘s Holocaust Memorial Day (HMD) service this morning, at Lowestoft Train Station.
This location is used as it is one of the sites of the Kindertransport trains bringing Jewish children to the UK, arriving on 12th December 1938.
The theme of the 2023 HMD is ‘Ordinary People’ and student leadership students Kai, Bethany and Head Boy Theo played an active part in the service, reading their own written readings based on the theme. They read really well to a large audience, speaking from the heart and with compassion. Jack then laid a wreath, alongside a student from Ashley School, on behalf of Waveney Youth Council.
A memorial arch for the Kindertransport was also unveiled at the end of the service, which is located on the platform area for the public to view.
Copies of the read extracts have been placed in our academy reception.
Well done to all of our students involved at such a moving event.
